That's a wonderful memory! I hope you contact John Bradley about that.

The elder Bradley was a pillar of the community, but the book goes to great lengths to explain that he never thought of himself as a hero and almost never talked about the war.

I was born during WWII, and during the fifties my pard and I dug fox holes and fought mock battles. Our Dad's were both Marines. His had fought on Peleliu and two other amphibious landings. We were proud of that.

Correction. We are STILL proud of that.
