Nobody is suggesting otherwise. I think the real issue is that some on the TX Board want to teach the Civil War for what it was at its core -- a battle over state's rights.

But its a copout......states' right became an issue because the South didn't want to give up slavery and the feds were trying to stop it.

Cogent arguments have been made that the Civil War would have occurred with or without slavery because there was disagreement as to the federal government's role.

Rarely do people start a war......particularly a civil war......over theoretical POVs.

And its understandable.........the South's way of life was threatened......its very existence. The problem was the South had gone down a bad path.....too far down that path....and was living in a false economy based on the subjegation of others. Slavery had to end......for the ultimate economic success of this country.

And now we face the same problem with illegals. A false economy has developed in the SW, the West coast and TX....and now its spreading to other states. We have to stop it before it fukks up the country.

This, of course, is the right-left argument most of us are still in disagreement about.

Denial.....it forms the basis for most Southern and Republican positions.

The only thing I will give you is that the North didn't free the slaves out of the goodness of their hearts. On the contrary, they were motivated by economics....pure and simple.
