I agree with Paul here. Talk of grinding government boot heels in to the throats of individuals and corporations, is rather inappropriate. I might not use the term "un-American", since its vague and for other reasons, but it doesn't seem totally inappropriate here.

BP should (and apparently will) pay the clean up costs* (unless it can show that the fault is Transocean's or Hailburtun's and then it might be able to collect from them or have them pay directly). Holding it to that, or pushing it to solve the problem faster, is fine, but the "put my boot heel on the throat of" comment wasn't good.

* It might not pay a large percentage of the non-cleanup costs, because apparently there is a legal limit to its liability. If there is the law should hold in this case, if it is a bad law it should be changed, but it shouldn't be ignored just because BP is unpopular now.
