“there is no reason a freethinker should ever be self-sacrificing.“ You finally burbled something that wasn’t intended to come out of your ass! Congratulations! Yes. If a freethinker sacrifices anything it is an act of wonderful self respect and honest value--100% selfishness. As Ayn said, you can’t get more virtuous or loving than that. Everything a decent, humane, rational and (truly) compassionate person does is for selfish reasons. Otherwise they would be mooching beggars of both intellect and spirit--of no value to the world. They might as well join a band of marauding religious beggars and go about all day in filth and squalor like obscene animals looking at the moon and wondering wondering wondering...
