BP and the oil leak.

To me it makes a lot of sense to keep BP strongly and positively encouraged until the leak is plugged. It's not as if it's a done deal or anything yet.

I know if I cared about the environment, especially if that oil rig was leaking in my back door step, the Clyde Estuary, I would patiently wait until the task of plugging the leak had been completed before dishing out blame and justice.

It makes lots of sense if you think about it.

Another point is cheap oil is a good idea. Cheap oil and a clean environment is a desirable outcome. I know all those folks who use two stroke engines in the Florida keys would desire that outcome.

It's a matter of maximising the chances of such a fortuitous event.

OTOH why are oil companies such f**k ups? They have the money and the tools at hand to do a good job. One wonders. It's not "the danders if working in an adverse environment". One just plans for that. I bet the BOP on the two rigs that are drilling the relief wells will work just fine if called on to do so. I would check the paperwork on that just in case.
