What's really interesting is how small an area would be used in the desert southwest. Around 2% of the land there could power the entire country! I posted a year and a half ago a proposal first submitted in a Scientific American article of how it could be done. There is more than enough land available that has already been damaged that could be used. And we would not have to use any critial habitats at all.

This country is fortunate to have this generating potential, many don't.

And if you add up the rooftop area that's ripe for PV and solar thermal we have lots of generating potential, much more than we need to run this country. In fact we could export power to Canada and Mexico thus helping our balance of payments problems and reducing our trade deficit.

Simple physics, virtually zero pollution, totally renewable.
