Apparently the larger OEM's feel the same way.

For reference purposes, IBM is announcing three new computers today. One has a Pentium II/300 MHz CPU, another (a notebook) has a Pentium Tillamook, and the third, a low cost $999 APtiva, has a "166 MHz MMX enabled processor".

In other words, IBM is using either an AMD (most likely) or Cyrix chip in the cheap one and is too embarrased to advertise that fact.
