I share your sentiments as expressed above ..

BUT ......

I'm very concerned about two negative aspects of
renewables for running an economy as large as ours on
anything approaching BAU going forward ..

1) Intermittency
2) Low energy density

Assuming we collectively want adequate, reliable energy
to sustain or grow our economy going forward, I strongly
favor Next gen nukes and nat gas for base load and commercial
scale wind and CSP where it makes economic sense to deploy ..

Serial hybrids, CTL and GTL plus some bio-fuels will help
transition our transportation and agricultural needs from
fossil fuels to hybrid-electric .. ( Peak Oil etc ) ..
