You're saying the percentage rise in unemployment has been higher in TX while before you were saying TX was spared because of energy:

"There is a reason why TX as well as ND, SD and OK didn't do so badly and the primary reason is oil."

--------------------------------

They are called parks. Doesn't matter what you call them ... besides I saw lots of green space and I don't think they were all parks. Is everything east of Everett a park?

-------------------------------------
Sammamish and Duvall are in Snohomish County....they are exurban.....more rural....just now developing. Seattle and Bellevue are in King County. King County is mostly built up.

Who cares about the county lines .... I listed places where there's a vast amount of undeveloped land with 8-14 miles of MSFT's HQ's.

-----------------------------------
I didn't make it up. It doesn't surprise me that Austin is known as a model city in the rest of the country but not in TX.

What makes Austin a "model city"?

---------------------------------------

I was talking about its industry mix......nicely diverse.....state gov't, tech and some manufacturing............the envy of other cities.

Except for the state government, those things don't make it unique in TX.

---------------------------------------------

You never want one industry to dominate your employment base like oil does in Houston [see Austin]. If oil decides to move, Houston is screwed. And its about to lose a major employer......Continental. A city's prospects can change overnite.

Sure, its good to have a diversified economy. But its also good to have a lot of good jobs which the oil and gas industry does for the Houston area.

Oil isn't going to leave Houston unless the government drove it out or something.

Continental's a special case involving a consolidating industry.
