OK.

So "tens of billions per year", continued over an EXTENDED NUMBER OF YEARS (decades, right?), and with borrowed funds, to which interest rates compound, and even adding in the Opportunity Costs of any forgone opportunities (such as paying down debt, or productive investments in national infrastructure, or any other alternative possible uses for the same money, etc.) is "small" to you.
