Sure there is a place for many companies in such a dynamic, growing market. But how many can successfully and profitably compete end to end?

As I alluded to with the Adobe/Microsoft analogy, the most profitable bet is for the small companies to target a segment and dominate it, looking for and seizing openings as they appear, building upon strength. Remember, it can be argued, and indeed was not that long ago, that Cisco was just a router company.

Cisco has shown that it is growing faster than the market, seizing share from others. The challenge put to Chambers by analysts is not whether Cisco can dominate the market but whether he can continue direct Cisco's growth at the market rate or faster.

I do not doubt the former. I embrace the latter.
