Come on, you don't think these 1,200 guardsmen are new hires, do you? They are already on the payroll. The $500 million goes for their transport, housing, equipment, two way radios, smartphones, etc.
Of course they are not new hires. That is hardly my point.
Everything that a soldier and his unit need to accomplish every assigned mission to include vehicles, housing allowances, equipment, pay and benefits is already provided by Department of the Army.
Preprogrammed contingency funds take care of nonpreprogrammed operations.
The $500 million ($416,000 per soldier) is either a cash cow for someone else or a big number that the WH used to impress. I wasn't impressed, so will take the first option. |
