Paul - great post, and thanks for the pep talk! Additional points to consider:
1) Dell's CFO has been rather boldly stating that stock is undervalued, right up to quiet period.
2) Q3 is right in the sweet spot for Dell's government buying cycle ... "use it or lose it" time for all those gov't budget busters.
3) Q4 is European ramp-up time, just as that "sluggish European market" appears to be subsiding
4) leasing program is apparently really taking off.
Nonetheless, it has been painful to observe this P/E contraction. Maybe we will just have to let earnings catch up to market perception for a couple of quarters. In all probability, Dell will probably do around $4.00 or so in 1998, which puts a company growing at 50% at a forward looking P/E of 20. Seems like a good value.
