"BUT the mob can bid up..." Avoid the mob, as; the market accomodates the fewest number of people. "... it might cut risk." This is the goal. "...still looking for the correlation between price and earnings," see MSFT,INTC,G,KO,GE,etc... charts:EPS growth rates Look over the past decade, not just for the past several, valuation stretching, years. Or, consider the multiples now attached to the S&L industry. Historically a single digit p/e biz (due to their low growth nature), now at p/e's which reflect their recent EPS growth rates.
