I've met some very nice cops over the years.

As a whole though, they seem to believe they are somehow special compared to the rest of us peons.

The best cops I've met have been reasonable folks, not the type that would put cop brotherhood above justice. i believe the majority(most) are of the "we are special" variety. Typically prone to violence, pushy, and willing to do just about anything to keep their authority. Those type are thugs.
