Exploration Update - Cikotok Gold Project - West Java, Indonesia

Atapa Minerals Limited ("Atapa") continues its aggressive exploration over the entire "Cikotok" Super KP and is pleased to announce the following exploration progress on this 101,400 hectare property in West Java, Indonesia. Atapa has the right to acquire a minimum 51% interest in the Cikotok/Cikidang property.

Exploration Highlights through August 31, 1996

a Drilling continues with 5 drills - 2 at Pasir Keris, 1 at Pasir Ela, 1 at Cirotan and 1 at Hulu Cimari.

a Petrological specialists' "Terry Leach and Company" from New Zealand have been retained to provide survey and analysis for the Cikotok project. Their study commenced in early August. Preliminary results of petrological examination indicate that the mineralized district of Cikotok contains porphyry style mineralization that has all the stages needed to create an orebody. The Company still remains at site examining drill core, mapping results and collecting samples for further petrological examination.

a PT Kilborn Pakar Rekayasa, the Indonesian member of the Kilborn Group of Companies has been retained to carry out a basic evaluation of the Pasir Ela and Cirotan corridor projects, as well as to prepare a pre-feasibility study set of guidelines.
Overview of Exploration Target Areas

A detailed geological report of the information below is available upon request. It contains a Petrological summary of the Pasir Keris, Pasir Ela and Rabig Prospects, a Geochemical Processing survey and results, maps, as well as specific drill hole results and geological overview. This report may assist with the interpretation and understanding of the summaries below. Contact Atapa at any of the numbers on this release header for a copy of the report.

Pasir Ela Exploration

a The Pasir Ela prospect has progressed to the drilling stage after the delineation of an extensive quartz stockwork zone of minimum dimension 700m by 700m centred on the Ranca Salak river.

a Detailed geological mapping has delineated a 600m x 300m zone of pervasive argillic alteration with intervening stockwork veins and intense silicification. Pyrite deficient quartz veins and quartz veins containing pyrite, galena, sphalerite and chalcopyrite are the main types of quartz veining recognized in the area. They are hosted mostly in the argillic zones and to a lesser degree in the intensely silicified zones. The assay results confirm the 600m strike length of the gold anomaly. The silver and arsenic anomalies coincide with the north-south trending gold anomaly and exhibit several similar anomalies paralleling this main anomaly. The mercury anomaly confirms the existence of a number of structures and most probably represents the dominant stockwork vein directions.

a Channel sampling along the Cimabuti River, an irrigation channel near the Ciempuk River and at the Aneka Tambang drill site, has been completed and include one channel sample of 16 metres at 2.51 g/t gold and 106 g/t silver.

a Preliminary drill hole results for all programs listed above are contained in the report described above.

Pasir Keris Exploration

a Petrological analysis of the core samples from Pasir Keris indicate that the Pasir Keris area seems to hold the potential for possible economic porphyry style copper-gold mineralisation developed in and around the high level intrusions, and for quartz carbonate polymetallic structurally controlled mineralisation in the distal portions of those early systems.

a Geological mapping of the Cicarucup river south to the Cirahong River located an extensive north-south trending zone of silicified tuff breccia of strike length over one kilometre.

a Diamond drilling has returned very promising results including:
PKD-5: 5m at 20.42 g/t gold and 9 g/t silver
PKD-8: 9m at 3.51 g/t gold

Rabig Exploration

a At the Rabig Prospect area, two drillholes penetrated polymictic fragmentals identified as diatreme breccias. This area has similar exploration potential to that at Pasir Keris and areas marginal to the diatreme breccias, or in structures tangential to those bodies, are likely to offer the best targets for future testing.

Cirotan Exploration

a The Cirotan corridor is a 7 km north-south zone of mineralization that extends from the Gunung Sopal prospect, 1.5 km south of the Cirotan mine, to the Cipanggleseran prospect, 5.5 km north-east of the Cirotan mine.

a Mapping of the river system to the north of the field camp at Hulu Cimari has delineated a quartz vein zone over a strike length of 2 km north-south, and laterally 220 metres at its widest exposure and 70 metres at the northern and southern extremities.

a The focus of drilling is the area surrounding the Cirotan mine. Old mine information including level plans is being digitized into a mine model, to test the extent of the lower grade material not mined. Drilling is underway to test both the hanging wall and foot wall structures for gold mineralisation.

Cikidang Exploration

a The Cikidang prospect has had an IP geophysical survey and diamond drilling program which was completed by 1991. Since then, Aneka Tambang have been concentrating on proving reserves by underground testing of the main Cikidang vein. Grades of up to 55 g/t gold and up to 115 g/t silver have been recorded. Aneka Tambang have indicated a resource of 473,000 tonnes, grading 10 g/t gold and 87.7 g/t silver.

a Atapa's current program includes the sampling of all the underground workings newly exposed outcrop along bulldozer cuttings as well as following up on other known occurrences. Drill core from the 25 completed holes of the Aneka Tambang drill program has been re-boxed and is now being relogged and sampled over 1 metre intervals, for all the core available.

Ciawitali Exploration

a The Ciawitali area has been the focus of exploration attention from March, 1988 to December, 1991, by the Ministry of Mines & Energy - Directorate General of Geology and Mineral Resources, Indonesia, and the Ministry of Industry, Bureau de Recherches Geologiques et Minieres, France.
Ciawitali Exploration (continued)

a Exploration involved the sampling of river catchments, soil sampling, rock outcrop sampling and mapping, geophysics surveying, trenching and diamond drilling. The results of this work are currently being evaluated by Atapa staff. Highlights from the reports reviewed to date indicate that the Ciawitali area warrants a major exploration effort, to follow up on the earlier programs. This work has outlined the existence of 5 main quartz vein zones and 1 quartz veined stockwork area.

Other Regional Exploration

To assess the large underexplored regions in the west of the property, specialist, regional and reconnaissance teams consisting of Atapa and Aneka Tambang personnel have been put together by Atapa. Early work to date has identified a number of prospects for follow up work, with a number of stream sediment samples, BLEG and rock chip samples in for analysis.
