If you look at plenty of images of oil booms with oil caught by them, you will see that they are single strands and doing a good enough job and certainly better than a double layer would do if there is a shortage of booms.
<No, a single line will be utterly useless if you know anything about the sea at all. >
As it happens I do know a bit about the sea and could solve successful Airy Wave Theory problems of some complexity too [once upon a time - I have forgotten more about the sea than 95% of people know]
Now would be a good time for you to buy BP shares while the hysteria is at a peak with Obama going to bed and waking up thinking oil.
In a week or three, nobody will be the slightest bit interested about oil in the Gulf of Mexico.
Even now, at the height of the global calamitous catastrophe with billions of people about to die from oil - actually, no, hang on... it's only in the millions isn't it? Yes yes, I am kidding I know it's way fewer than that. It's 3 pelicans, an eel, a dolphin, 24 left footed mud crabs apart .... Normally that wouldn't rate as a calamitous catastrophe though C2's gourmet lifestyle is irritated at the price increase he is apparently suffering which must be of some concern to us all.
So far, there has been not even a dozen people killed and a very valuable drilling platform lost. That's the biggest issue in my book, even ahead of some dolphins [which Japanese slaughter by the dozen just to keep their numbers down] and pelicans which breed like bunnies and the price of crab meat.
The spilled oil is also very annoying and needs cleaning up, which is very doable in such a benign place as the Gulf of Mexico when there isn't a hurricane coming through. If a hurricane comes through, the oil slicks will be ripped to shreds.
Did you see the price on the head of a gallon of oil floating on the surface? I'd rather go fishing for that oil than for fish if I had a fishing boat in the area. The spilled oil is more valuable than C2's Antoine's menu and it just sits there, stupidly waiting for a boom to drag it into a good amount for a skimmer to suck it out. Kaching!!! Thank you BP.
Maybe that's why C2 is annoyed - the fishermen aren't bothering with fish and are going for oil pushing the price of fish up.
If you look at satellite pictures of the area, the oily area is a little part of the Gulf of Mexico. I guess if you asked most Americans, and perhaps the president, they'd think the oil is sliming it's way up the Everglades onto Route 66 and heading for California and north up Highway 1 to Washington ready to conduct a terrorist attack on New York.
I see the BP share price has already bounced as people realize that it isn't actually the end of the world as we know it. It's just a big mess of oil that needs cleaning up. Maybe they also have figured out that it might not be BP's fault. The court case outcomes should be interesting.
If Obama and go have put a boot on BP's throat and have ordered them around during the clean up process, impeding the clean up and stopping of the oil flow, then BP will have an excellent defence. Lawyer for the prosecution: "Why did you wait a week to deploy the booms and dispersants instead of getting on with it?" BP - "Well your honour, we had the dispersants there, we had the booms ready to roll but we had to get Resource Management Act approval and get 37 various government departments to agree to the process and they had to get approvals including all the way up to the president, but he was busy and when he did consider the matter wanted us to use solar energy to power the boats and renewable plastics to harvest the oil and to report on the CO2 output in case we reached the tipping point of runaway Global Warming. Many of them wanted to fly down for photo ops to show how much they cared and they wanted the equipment there ready for them to personally launch."
Haha, that's funny. I just watched that video about Booming School and she was far worse than I imagined. I did watch it previously with the sound off [didn't want noise where I was] and the images were so pathetic I didn't bother with it. It was almost satire but it didn't seem to be - she seemed serious, but she was a good joke anyway.
If she is paid much of anything at all, it's a waste of money. She sounds awful. I don't just mean the swearing. I know all the swear words - big deal that she strings them all together. It just makes her ridiculous. She is also right that incompetence will abound in deploying and using booms. That's what happens when people do things with which they are unfamiliar.
