The "world class experts" work for the oil companies. How else does one become a world class expert in cutting edge deepwater drilling technology without working for an oil company? You don't get on the MLB All Star team without playing MLB, and you don't get to be a drilling expert without getting grease under your nails on a rig.

Have you seen the small armada BP assembled around the Deepwater leak, the number of subs working around the clock, the resources being poured into this, the number of engineers assembling welders, pumpers, barges, sub operators, geologists, amd mudders calculating how to pump mud down to 5,000 ft? They all learned to do what they do while working for oil service companies.
