>>The military budget is actually the only easy part of government to cope with. Even if we didn't withdraw our troops from all the places around the world many Americans feel they don't belong, it would be monumentally easy to simply grow the military budget at the rate of inflation and allow real GDP growth to slowly swamp it and reduce it as a % of GDP.<<

the problem is private GDP is collapsing.

the first chart is YOY - so private GDP was down 12% and then down another 10%.

adding $17k in annual debt for every worker isn't sustainable - when that game ends, the floor will drop on that first chart.

>>We could do that without any negative impact to our military capability and no hardship to the men in service or industries that support it all.<<

i don't think that is even remotely possible at this point in the game.

>>The entire problem is the unfunded liabilities of SS, medicare, medicaid, pensions etc...<<

they are funded. the problem is the special interests looted all the money the people into it so the money is gone.

the responsibility shouldn't be put on the people being ripped off, but the criminals doing the stealing via their government tool.

>>When you take people's money (tax them) and make promises to them in return, they build their lives with the expectation those promises will be kept later on. And because they were taxed, they have less available to save for their own futures.<<

absolutely.
