This is shooting in the dark. The existing bend is serving as a constrictor to the flow which means that it is also reducing the high pressures from the ground. If they saw it off and they are not sure if they can work against the increased pressure resulting from the cutting off, then they need to stop and rethink.

Should we mess up a messy situation further?


I don't know. This is so far removed from anything I understand I am at a loss as to which is the best way to go. The only thing that motivates me is thinking of the two and half more months of oil spewing out of that hole if every attempt is dropped at this point. That's a hell of a lot of oil.
