A few excerpts from a book posted here a while back when "science" & "evolution" were actually being discussed. A must read for anyone interested in the history of evolutionary thought ESPECIALLY those who think "evolution" is ONE single theory:

mitpress.mit.edu

"Computer jocks... with no experience in field biology, have a large influence on the funds for research and training in "evolutionary biology" so that fashionable computable Neo-Darwinist nonsense perpetuates itself. -Lynn Margulis (1991)

Margulis? Nobel prize winner eventually assuming she isn't already.

Diamond:

"Darwinism (mainstream neo) as become so fascinating in recent years that now every year at least one new book is published with the word "Darwin" in the title. Some books, oronically, remain ignored by Mayr (random mutation) and his disciples, even though they carry Darwin's name in the title, like "Darwinism: The Refutation of a Myth (Lovtrup, 1987)", Darwin's Black Box" (1996- Behe), "Darwinsim Evolving" (Depew and Wber-1996), "Shatering the Myths of Darwinsim" (Milton-1997)."

Further:

"Ignoring disagreeable liturature became a frequent strategy of hardened neo-Darwinists (Mayr 1982, 1988, 2001), Ruse (1982). "

"This intellectual degeneracy is the outward expression of the fact that neo-Darwinism has long since ceased to be a Scientific theory and has transformed into an ideology" (Miltons, 1997)

See Goulds "opus": "Much that has become comfortable must be sacrificed to an enlarged theory, especially the neat, clean, simple notion that natural selection on organisms is "the" cause of evolutionary change... {snip}.

Great book with a LOT of care and pages given to "Neo-Lamarkiansim"; "Evo Devo"; "Eco-Evo-Devo & the fossil record"; etc. etc.
