Hi AJ,

Yep, Novell is getting killed on the low end and that is where mass marketing is most necessary. Those buyers are not reading computer magazines, they are too busy running their business and aren't that comfortable buying software that they don't really understand. They will automatically buy Microsoft because it seems safer than buying from a company they don't know anything about and have never heard of. Seeing ads after the sale is perhaps even more important, as there is a well known effect refered to as buyers remorse that happens anytime someone makes a purchase and wonder if it was the right decision. Novell has some kind of mental block against promoting their products as if there were a moral issue involved. It's just business! People want the reasurance of buying name brands they recognize and being told the product is good and that it was a wise decision to make the purchase. At this point I believe the people on this thread could turn the company around faster than Schmidt can. He's done some good things but he still hasn't done the right thing. Marketing is the problem. In seven months he has yet to do anything beyond saying it's a problem.

Regards,

Don
