If the liabilities they've incurred* drive them bankrupt over time, so be it.

But I am 100% against the idea of government deciding to destroy something for political purposes. I'm against show trials and star chambers where pompous ignorant politicians rant at the designated people's enemy of the day (Toyota, one month, BP, the next, and on and on). I'm against us being a country where political leaders talk about having their boots on so and so's neck, holding so and so's feet to the fire, etc.

* And the damage to their prestige as a partner. This is going to be substantial and long term and few are thinking about it except in boardrooms and government oil ministries around the world.
