It should make them uneasy. They are being asked (ordered?) to put a "Scientist Seal Of Approval" on a decision already made by industry and government. And, as they admit, there is near-zero data on which to base a decision.

If those scientists had more moral courage, they would say: "The only honest answer a scientist can give you is: We don't know. There are no fact-based recommendations we can make, because nobody has funded research on this topic. You are conducting an immense experiment with the ecology of the Gulf Of Mexico, and nobody has any idea what the results will be."

Probably, the scientists were pre-selected to ensure they gave the answer the government and industry wanted, rather than the honest answer.
