The U.K. firm running the first U.S. platinum and palladium exchange-traded funds said Tuesday it issued additional shares in the two products, raising their combined value to $871 million.

As of May 26, ETF Securities said it raised the number of shares in its platinum ETF to 11.22 million from 4.78 million, and boosted the equity in its palladium ETF to 18.8 million from 12.88 million.

The two ETFs had assets under management worth $871 million as of May 27, compared with about $804 million on May 21, data provided to Reuters by the company showed.

Since their January launch, the ETFs had seen strong investor interest until last month's global markets sell-off, which almost wiped out all gains for the year in platinum XPT= and palladium XPD= prices.

ETF Securities said the value of its four precious metals exchange-traded products -- comprising of the platinum, palladium ETFs as well as similar products for gold and silver -- stood at $1.5 billion as of May 27, versus $1.43 billion on May 21.
