Pinnacle Micro Drives CD-R Market With New 4X Write/4X Read Recordable CD System -- Only $995 MSRP

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Pinnacle Micro, Inc.
(Nasdaq: PNCL) introduces and ships a powerful new Recordable CD System with 4X write and 4X read capabilities, doubling the record speed of other CD-R systems on the market. The RCD 4x4 ships complete with easy-to-use software designed for backup, audio/video and data distribution applications. Free backup software (Disc Archive 95 for PC and RCD Backup for Mac) also comes bundled with each system.
The RCD 4x4 PC internal is $995 (MSRP) and PC/Mac external is $1095 (MSRP) complete with hardware, Easy-CD Pro software from Adaptec (PC) or CD Burner software (Mac), backup utility, blank CD, and more. Additional blank Recordable CDs are just $15 (MSRP) from Pinnacle Micro (800-553-7070), or a variety of computer distributors and retail stores worldwide.

"Recordable CD is the most significant storage technology offering of the 90's," said James Hanley, general manager of strategic products group at Pinnacle. "RCD systems are an extremely reliable, random access storage medium which allow users to store data in a format that can be read by millions of CD-ROM drives worldwide. RCD is truly a bridge between CD-ROM technology of the past, and new writable CD technologies of the future.

"CD-R technology is superior to tape in a number of respects; it has fast, random access to data versus tape's slow, sequential access; it is much more reliable and has a longer shelf life than tape; and it can be recorded in a universal ISO 9660 format for data distribution whereas many tape drives record in a proprietary format," said Hanley.

RCD 4x4 supports many of the most popular CD creation formats such as
mixed mode, ISO 9660, HFS, disc-to-disc, multisession and others. These formats give users flexibility in creating CDs for many different types of applications such as audio, multimedia, data and software development. Unlike other 4X CD-R systems, the Pinnacle RCD 4x4 features a 1 MByte internal cache buffer which is key to data transfer speed and a successful disc creation. It also uses a caddyless loading tray which makes changing CDs quick and simple.

Software Features
With Adaptec's Easy-CD Pro software for PC, users can create CDs in Windows 3.X, Windows 95 and Windows NT environments. Easy CD-Pro for Windows was named "Product of the Year" (1995) by Infoworld. Easy-CD Pro includes features for data, audio and mixed mode recording, such as drag and drop file creation, on-the-fly from virtual image to CD, multisession and CD-Audio disc-at-once. Supported disc formats include IS0 9660, HFS, CD-DA, CD-I and CD-ROM XSA. CD Burner 2.0 for Macintosh and Power PC, includes features such
as drag-and-drop, incremental multisession, audioextraction, disc-at-once, select audio-gap in-between tracks and file verification. Supported formats include HFS, SO 9660, audio, mixed mode, disc image and SCSI copy.

Disc Archive 95 is a Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 backup software utility written by Pinnacle for removable media. Disc Archive 95 uses a new, patent- pending storage methodology to write up to 2 Gigabytes of compressed data to removable optical media utilizing 32 bit architecture and multiple, preemptively scheduled execution threads. Disk Archive 95 also enables network users to backup or restore on a network drive.

RCD Backup is a Macintosh software utility written by Pinnacle Micro for removable disk media, including CD-R drives. It has many of the features of Disc Archive 95, plus the ability to backup an entire image of a volume. Like Disc Archive 95, the backups can span across buffer underruns.

System Requirements
Minimum system requirements for the RCD 4x4 include a 486/33 computer with 8 MB of RAM for PC and System 7 with a 68040 processor and 8 MB of RAM for Macintosh. Hard drive requirements include at least 1.2 MB/sec transfer rate and less than or equal to 12 msec access time.
The RCD 4x4 will be available worldwide through dealers, resellers, VARs and distributors this month.
