True Bush pushed spending increases rather than restraint, its his most clear major failing. OTOH before the Democrats took over congress spending with Bush as president, was much less than it is now.

Also if your defense of Democrats is "Bush did it too", its a rather weak defense, esp. in the context of Bush being unpopular, and of you personally not liking Bush or supporting his policies.

Even without that context "he did it too" is a lousy defense, and more so in this type of situation than in most since the more money that was spent with Bush as president, the more need there is to restrain future spending increases.

If you have a married couple and the husband blows the retirement fund on a Ferrari, that doesn't imply that its a good idea for the wife to blow the kid's college fund on new jewelery.
