>>you don't know no black people.>>

I grew up in Richmond California that is over 50% African American and saw racism my whole life. I hated it.

When I worked on the Alaskan pipeline though, most of the workers were "pipeliners and welders from the deep south". Mississippi, Texas and Louisianna. That was my first experience with hard core racism which I had never seen in California.

I stood up for an african americna fellow one day and thereafter I was not only harrassed constantly, but they endangered my life by jiggling a crane I was working under setting hooks on 22,000 lb pipe to load on trucks.

I climbed down off the stack of pipe and told the operator: "I know you hate me, but you cannot kill me". He stopped, but they still got drunk at night and would open my door to try and scare me.

The African Aemrican fellow I stood up for (shorty they called him) told me it was so hard being black in the south that I could not stand it and would either kill myself or someone else.
