Inode, > So, as a professional engineer (a different specialty, I understand that), do you believe there is enough information publicly available on which to base the attacks against BP's operations?
There doesn't need to be any more information. Barring sabotage, the fault lies with BP.
Lots of Monday morning quarterbacks coming out and saying "Coulda shoulda woulda," which is normal. BP is obviously asking these questions themselves.
I'm confident that the investigations from within and without will turn up the answers. I'm looking forward to reading about it in reputable publications, both engineering and otherwise. (CNN, however, is no longer "reputable" these days, and that's a shame.)
Until then, though, I say let people vent their frustrations. Maybe it will lead to some good, or maybe it will lead to more partisan bickering, but it will at least underscore the need for foolproof engineering. After all, it's a minor miracle that we can even drill a mile underwater for oil.
