Elroy, do you think peace is a state of nature? It is not. It is Pax Americana that keeps the shipping lanes of the Persian Gulf and the Eastern Med open -- until Barack Obama declared no country could tell another what to do and he wanted out of the superpower business. Now Turkey and Iran are starting to rattle their sabres, to test reactions. If Obama reacts by jettisoning America's allies, he is announcing: Jump ball, guys, go for it.

Then we will see a dozen wars break out.

By the way, Israel may lead the list of American allies, but Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the Gulfies are on it too. If Iran decides it's free to deal with unrest at home by extending its borders abroad, how many Gulfies do you think will survive?

Weakness invites aggression.

The Romans understood it. Si vis pacem, para bellum, they said.
