Bobby, as usual you have an ability to ask a 'gloomy question'
We are indeed preoccupied with deflation/inflation scenario in USA.
Phillip-Morris has figured this out long time ago. If by some act of God Americans would quit smoking tomorrow (as they should) it would'nt
affect tobacco business a bit. There more smokers in Indo-China than entire population of USA. (it would affect Columbia if drugs usage will decline) So your choice are drugs or tobacco-good luck)

AVX Corporation Announces New Electrode Systems
10:40 a.m. Nov 05, 1997 Eastern
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- AVX (NYSE: AVX) announced
today that it is beginning volume production of capacitors utilizing
nickel and copper electrode systems. Dr. Carl Eggerding, the Vice
President of Advanced Products Technical Center, stated, "The copper
electrode systems offer significant improvements in ESR (Equivalent
Series Resistance) and extends the frequency range of applications for
NPO dielectrics, in addition to obvious cost benefits. As the
frequencies have increased in today's electronic devices, this is
becoming more and more critical."

The nickel electrode technology's primary advantage is cost reduction,
i.e., the elimination of the expensive palladium and palladium silver
electrodes. Palladium prices have continued to increase in the last
year, and these alternative materials will reduce the cost of the high
volume surface mount chip capacitors used in today's products.

AVX has long supplied Leaded Products with a lead injection technology
that does not require precious metals.

John Gilbertson, President and Chief Operating Officer, stated, "These
two new developments will allow AVX to produce cost effective devices
allowing our customers to continue to produce competitive products in
the rapidly expanding electronics industry. These types of technical
breakthroughs continue to demonstrate results from our R&D
expenditures."

AVX, headquartered in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is a leading
manufacturer and supplier of a broad line of passive electronic
components and related products. SOURCE AVX Corporation
