If rapid inflation starts to kick in, gold will be a great investment.

But I can't do much with physical gold without incurring transaction costs. I can buy food and pay bills with dollars at face value. Transaction costs with gold are (relatively)huge.

If inflation fears start to fade, the price of gold will plummet - there's plenty of risk associated with holding gold.

I'm getting less and less worried about near term inflation.
