Nothing wrong with protecting the environment

In the abstract no, but putting that aim automatically and massively ahead of any other concern is a bad idea.

And some of the efforts to protect the environment, cause environmental damage. They hamper development of nuclear power, on-shore and shallow off shore drilling, wind farms, etc. So we get more deep off-shore drilling, and more transportation of oil half way across the world in tankers.

It took these folks ten years to get off oil. i realize that they still rely on outside oil sources for steel etc., but i find it hard not to admire what they've done in 10 years.

Samso has a population of just over 4000, and a total area of 44 sq miles ( en.wikipedia.org ), its a pretty meaningless example for a country of 300+ million, and an area of almost 3.8 million sq miles.
