In fact, international law vested Israel as a country out of the ashes of the Ottoman Empire and the British Mandate. There was no country "Palestine". The Arabs attacked and lost. The Palestinians backed the Arabs, thinking they were on a winner. Ooops a daisy. They lost too. It's best not to conduct genocidal wars if the prospect of losing is unacceptable. Mqurice
