Jim,
CD technology and MO technology (though both optical) are different, utilizing two different types of media formats and methods of encoding information onto their respective media. Magneto Optical media reads a magnetic charge from the disk. This charge can be changed, allowing it to be fully rewritable. CD-ROM technology reads information by reading the intensity of the reflection from a CD to the read mechanism of a CD-ROM drive, once the data has been permanently etched (or burned - as is the method used in CD-R technology) into
the CD.
