Actually, the Germans have always been good at learning languages. I think most Germans, that start on a University, know at least 4 languages, and it has been like that for a very long time. English wasn't always the first language to learn, and I guess that it still isn't.

But internet has changed the media. Before the internet, English wasn't very useful for most people, now it is.
