Davidson's talk at UBS. At around minute 7 he explains why it will take sooooo long for 4g to ever really replace 3g completely from the phone. Very convincing. He does a nice job explaining how it took 9 years or so for digital to replace analog and the advantage was something like 30 times more efficient. He says 3G and 4G are about the same efficiency per spectrum but that 4G is essentially just a large new spectrum auction (similar to the PCS auctions). Thinks it will be attractive in urban areas where the spectrum availability is key. But 3g will be needed everywhere else for a long time. We are talking multiple decades if then here. Recommend to all.
