Inode, it's already started:

Jerry Brown comes out swinging at Meg Whitman

latimes.com

By the way, Jerry Brown wants to debate Meg Whitman at 10 town hall meetings. That gives him an air of populism, but the real reason is that he can't match Meg's spending on TV and radio ads.

Meanwhile Meg already built up a lot of name recognition here with the spending. The danger, of course, is the impression that she's spending way too much, which might turn off folks who dislike the fact that money is the mother's milk of politics. Doesn't matter if liberals are absolute hypocrites when it comes to this sort of stuff, so Meg would have to set herself apart from the usual mudslinging.

Because the reality is that if she wrestles with pigs, she'll get dirty and the pigs will enjoy it.
