You're clueless on Java too, Larry, as is Microsoft. It's hard to say what, exactly, was going on with Sun and the Java benchmarks, the stories are too sketchy. I've given my thoughts here, but that's just a guess. So maybe Sun did something dumb, it doesn't make the Microsoft war on Java any more sensible. Developers are hot for Java because it's portable, and Microsoft wants to make it unportable. Doesn't matter much if Sun does some dumb things, as long as they ship something reasonable in the end. Doesn't matter much what Microsoft does, either, it's transparently clear that they want to kill Java anyway they can. Any developer that gets lured into the Microsoft Roach Motel California, Java Branch, is just plain stupid. They sure ain't going to get their applets distributed through www.microsoft.com.

Cheers, Dan.
