to me the question is not: Are the legitimate liabilities large enough to bankrupt BP?? They are. It is a question as to whether they will have to pay all of them -- I think that is an open question.

Is BK a way out? Yes, but perhaps not the only way out ... just heard a statistic: BP divis comprise 13% of the income in pension funds in Britian -- also comprise not an inconsequential amount of pension income here.

How long has it been? How many companies should have been out of commission, that aren't?

Moreover, does anyone really think this shuts down drilling in the gulf for more than 1 year. I may be crazy, but I do think it can be done right.

Anyone who has had a taste of corporate life understands how corporate "dumb" happens, but it doesn't have to be that way.
