The US does not want to disturb the Saudi's for the oil issue.

That's certainly part of it, but the bigger part is that we're kind of stuck with regard to policy options regarding Saudi Arabia.

We know they're the devil, but better to deal with the devil you know, than the one that you don't know.

And were the Saudis to fail from power, the power vacuum that would result would likely permit the Wahhabists to seize total control over that country, which would necessitate an armed confrontation with them.

And that's a recipe for creating an uproar in the entire Muslim world.

I would much rather have the Hashemites step back into their previous role as rulers over the Holy Cities of Islam. They strike me as much more pragmatic and moderate.

And then the Palestinians wouldn't have an excuse for claiming they don't have a Palestinian state.
