I know this topic died a couple years ago due to lack of interest, I guess.

In spite of that, I have to post here a sad note as far as I'm concerned.

Today, June 13, 2010 is the end of "Little Orphan Annie". During WWII my brother and I would sit on our father's lap every Sunday morning and he would read the comics to us. Annie was one of my favorites.

Created by Harold Gray, it became an icon of staunch American Patriotism. After Gray died, it was picked up by other cartoonists and eventually one of them decided that it was time for Annie to "grow up" and she became a teen. My paper dropped the strip soon thereafter and I never thought about it again... until a brief article in this morning's paper announced Tribune Corporation, the owners of the strip, were letting Annie die.

RIP Little Orphan Annie... and her wonderful dog Sandy!
