It matters because people like you think all we have to do is drill some more, ie there is no limit. But there most certainly is and the evidence is right before your eyes everyday as that effing well continues to spew... Why do you think we have to drill in 5,000 feet of water and go 20,000 below the ocean floor....cause it's easy??? There is no ample supply anywhere else in our country....and this is only because of one reason....we are almost empty!!!!! If you can stand to look at data see the DOE website and look at national and world production curves, it's very obvious. They have been coming steadily down since 1972... But go ahead, drill baby drill...there must be plenty at 10,000 feet down.

And you have the balls to say....why does it matter????
