I aspired to that too. I even drew cartoons many years ago. In the Air Force, back in the early '70s, I drew a dozen-panel satire of our first sergeant that had a lot of underground popularity. He used to drag out the word "son." So, the last panel showed the word balloon drooping with the word "Sooooooooonnnnnnnnnn."

I developed another character later suggested by a haphazard drawing made by a fellow airman. I drew about 6 or 8 full strips of him in the '80s. I'll give away one of them: The first panel shows the character driving in heavy auto traffic, musing about life: "A man needs room to breathe, room to roam." Next: "A man needs freedom of movement, freedom of expression." Next: His car gets thumped from behind by an 18-wheeler. Final: "A man needs a good set of bumpers."

To break into the business, I understand you need about 6 months worth of dailies with Sunday strips. I don't think I had that in me.
