Sorry Javaman, I phrased my original post badly.

This is a complex technological play, which usually means that it is a straightforward gamble... this is my $0.02

1. The market in which VSGN plays is in transition between the early adopter phase and the volume ramp-up phase. If they stay the pace over the next few months, they will be in the main game when it really heats up.

2. The value of the company is i) intangibly in its technology and ii) tangibly in its customer base. These are independently attractive to would-be purchasers, but to a great extent mutually exclusive - e.g. if Oracle buys VSGN, you can kiss goodbye to the Sybase revenues... so valuing the company is pretty difficult.

This, together with the reputation of Roger Sippl, would tempt me to believe that the company will stay independent just as long as it can. And if they do so, they have as good a chance as anyone to make money from the growing market for their products....
