Wind power will never replace any other form of power. It is at best a local source to augment existing sources. For the most part, wind power plants tax the system more than they help as the power from them is unpredictable, which then causes the management of the more traditional sources of energy to be more difficult and less efficient.

But I have said before, we should develop all types of energy alternatives.

Wind...where we can (very limited locations)
Solar....where we can and when we can (not very effective at night)
Hydro....most rivers that can be dammed, have been dammed. Now we need to go for marine locations. The mouth of San Francisco Bay and Puget Sound at Port Townsend and Deception Pass would be ideal.
Coal...dig baby dig
Nuclear....Nuke baby Nuke!....and more Nukes!!
Efficiency....cars, appliances, homes...make em require less energy to run and keep cool and keep warm.
Oil....get as much from the middle east and venezuela as we can while we develop our energy infrastructure to require less international oil so that we can be self sufficient with domestic sources.
Once we have done all that....stop importing oil from international sources and flip the world the bird while we Drill Baby Drill!!!

Only thing is, I don't need the fraud of global warming or the scam of cap & tax to want energy independence. And more importantly, we can't have delusions of how much energy solar and wind will offset.
