Why don't Rs want BP to pay? "The Republican Study Committee, a group of conservative members of the House, released a statement today calling the $20 billion BP escrow account a "Chicago-style political shakedown." What has happened here is radically different from what the news media and Obama would have you believe. BP hasn't given up SHIT. They did NOT escrow any money. Not one nickel. They did NOTHING to insure the money would be available at a future date. In fact, what they did was give Obama political cover. They are going to put up $5B, which obviously will be needed anyway. Then they're going to put up $5B a year for three years running, as I understand it. It WAS a shakedown, but it was for political cover more than it was for dollars.
