After every disaster in the last 5 years, I have heard similar offers made only to be turned down initially. When the quakes hit in Chile and Haiti, countries were offering aid left and right. Those countries said we'll get back to you while the koans of Chile and Haiti screamed their bloody heads off asking why????

The reality is that its normal for a host nation to initially turn down offers of help for two very good reasons.......they don't know what they need and/or they don't know how they will deploy resources once they get them. Often it takes weeks to get the infrastructure up and running to deploy those resources. We saw that in Chile and we saw it in Haiti. And we are seeing it now....esp. with BP taking the lead. Plus, oil spills are much rarer than natural disasters. There are no oil spill experts......that includes the Alaskans who worked on Valdez......one spill does not an expert make.

But what's infuriating is your lack of understanding/empathy even as you claim you worked on the Valdez spill. I worked on a disaster once and it was the most frustrating work. People wanted everything the day before and were angry and frustrated even as we were busting our humps. You have been far too critical of Obama and his crew......criticism that I find very unfair.
