Money can't bring back a clean beaches, the clam beds, the marshes, the sea life, the ecosystem. Money can help the victims survive... but it can't help the emotional state of the fishing guide or shrimper now working at Wal-Mart.

My guess is that billions of BP's money will be wasted. Every picture I see of the cleanup involves dozens of folks in white suits, masks, boots and gloves picking up little tar balls - the kind of stuff helpful beach people in bathing suits on the other end of the beach are picking up with kid's sand shovels. That's nuts. A tarball is not cyanide for cryin' out loud.

we're doing so much destruction to the land, the environment and the culture and the jobs and the economy here, that money won't be able to repair all of this.”
