i know i am right... all i need are my eyes, and
when in doubt, a replay....

it also helps to be aware of the behavior of the referee throughout the game....

there was a play... i cannot remember the exact slovenian player (he wears a bandana across his hair, i believe it was suler) he went for the player, not the ball... he even got a yellow card for his efforts... but the problem with that is that the play was with clear, clear intent to foul (as opposed to going for the ball) and in the heat committing a foul *without intent*. if the referee allows that... then it can become a free for all... and the game will degenerate into a melee of fouls and injured players....

in that particular play, i believe the referee ought to have pulled a red card. out, no excuses. he does that... he puts on notice every player to do away with the dirty game.

so in this instance.... he disallowed a perfectly valid gol, and stole the game for the USA

and btw...

i loved the character of this USA team.... in spite of being behind, and having a hostile referee, they kept playing hard and tied... and in my eyes (notwithstanding the referee in need of an eye seeing dog) USA WON.

this team is clear evidence that USA has reached a level of play on the level of the better teams in the world.... and soon, the improvement will be even larger.

as for them protesting against the referee... the referee deserved it period. this idea of 'embarrassing in front of the world' is no more than unadulterated bullshit
